Baptist Assembly Multisite Setup
The following guide details how to set up the tech desk to run as a remote site for a Baptist Assembly meeting via vMix using a Blackmagic UltraStudio Recorder 3G.
Baptist Assembly Multisite Setup using UltraStudio Recorder 3G
Before
- Turn on audio and lighting master switches
- Turn on Streaming Mac Mini and log in as the Streaming user
- Turn on camera (open side flap) if it is not already
- Make sure camera is appropriately positioned and zoomed
- Adjust the camera settings if necessary
- Patch the lectern mic at the back of the stage (D1 -> 18)
- Optionally also patch the handheld mic (W1 -> 20)
- Disconnect the headphone cable from the Projection Mac Studio and connect it to the Mac Mini (at the back left, under the two USB-A ports)
- Set the sound desk levels for the lectern, handheld, and "Big iMac" (which will now set the levels from the Mac Mini)
- Mute the lectern and handheld inputs on the sound desk
- Disconnect HDMI output cable (red tape) from ATEM controller and connect HDMI cable from the UltraStudio Recorder 3G (yellow tape) to the output port
- Connect USB-C cable (yellow tape) from the UltraStudio Recorder 3G to the Mac Mini
- Change “Video Out” on the ATEM from “M/V” to “PGM”
- Select channel 1 on the ATEM (to select the camera)
- Ensure “ON” is lit up above channel 1 (not above “MIC 1”)

- Unplug the USB-C connection to the DMX lighting controller from the Mac mini
- Disconnect the Projection USB-C cable (green tape) from the Mac Studio, and connect it to the Mac Mini
- Turn the projectors on to “MAC”
- Ensure the output on the projector is mirroring (not extending) the Mac Mini’s display
- Open the OBS application on the Mac Mini and ensure you can see the video feed of the stage
- If you cannot see the feed, double click on Blackmagic Device and check the setttings are as follows:
- Device: UltraStudio Recorder 3G
- Video Connection: HDMI
- Audio Connection: Embedded
- Mode: 1080p25
- Pixel Format: 8-bit YUV
- Colour Space: Default
- Colour Range: Default
- Channel: 2ch
- All checkboxes options unchecked
- Ensure under “Audio Mixer” that “Blackmagic Device” is enabled and “Mic/Aux” is muted
- Click “Start Virtual Camera”
- Open Chrome, choose the WBC (not WBCCS) profile, and select the vMix Call Favourite
- Click the cog icon to open settings
- Select Camera - OBS Virtual Camera
- Select Microphone - Blackmagic UltraStudio Recorder 3G
- Make sure Echo Cancellation and Auto Gain are both checked
- Click Reconnect
- Before the meeting starts, Ensure “Toggle Camera Preview” is off
- Toggle Fullscreen
During
- On a separate computer (eg your laptop, or the Projection Mac Studio) have the Google Spreadsheet open on the Wollongong tab, and use the checkboxes and “Technology” text field as required
After
- Quit Google Chrome
- In OBS click Stop Virtual Camera, then quit OBS
- Ensure you disconnect the headphone cable from the Mac Mini and connect it back to the Mac Studio
- Ensure you disconnect the UltraStudio Recorder 3G HDMI cable (yellow tape) from the ATEM output HDMI port, and reconnect the original HDMI cable going to the monitor (red tape)
- Ensure you unplug the USB-C cable from the UltraStudio Recorder 3G (yellow tape) from the Mac Mini
- Ensure you unplug the Projection USB-C cable (green tape) from the Mac Mini, and reconnect the USB-C connection to the DMX lighting controller
- Ensure you reconnect the Projection USB-C cable (green tape) to the Mac Studio
- Turn off the projectors (press "OFF" on the wall controller)
- Log out of, or shut down both computers
- Close the flap on the camera (this will automatically turn it off)
- Turn off audio and lighting master switches
