Mixing the Camera Audio Feed
The "Camera" feed (Mix9-10) on the sound desk is what controls the audio going to the livestream as well as the feeds to the parents room and the foyer. The levels for Mix9-10 should already be set at a good starting level in the Scenes saved for each of the services, but if you have saved your own Scenes you may need to adjust them.
Unlike other mixes, Mix9-10 is tied to the levels set for the FOH mix. This means that a level of 0dB in Mix9-10 will use the level set for that channel in the FOH mix. To send a higher level to the camera feed/foyer set the Mix9-10 level above 0dB, and to send a lower level set it below 0dB.
It is also means that channels that are set lower in the FOH mix (eg drums, bass, and the feed from the Mac) generally need to be boosted in Mix9-10.
The following is a good starting guide to setting levels for Mix9-10 for most services (however you should adjust them as required). It assumes that the FOH Master level is set at about -5dB (if you have set it differently you may need to use different levels to the below, however the principles will still apply).
- Select Mix9-10 (Camera).
- Set Master to +10dB.
- Set CH23-24 (Big iMac) to +10dB.
- Set drums, bass, lectern, and wireless mic channels to +5dB.
- Set other channels as required (usually between 0dB and -10dB).
- Select FOH.
- Set CH23-24 to between -35 and -40dB.
Notes:
- This should allow the countdown music to be heard in the foyer, while not being too loud in the auditorium.
- If a video is being shown in the service, you will need to increase the FOH level for CH23-24 while it plays.
- The level meter for "CAM1" on the livestream preview monitor should be showing the levels in the yellow zone, spiking into the red zone (but not hitting the top of the red zone/meter), ideally between -10dB and -5dB.
- To hear the mix for the camera feed/foyer through the headphones, select Mix9-10 then press the PAFL button above the Master fader (and adjust the Phones level as required). Don’t forget to deselect PAFL in Mix9-10 once you are done.
